What Did The Critics Think Of Hamilton In Schenectady?

Now playing through to August 25.

Hamilton has finally arrived in Schenectady! Here for a splendid two-week run, what did the critics think of this eleven-time Tony-winning hit?

The Times Union was full of praise for the global phenomenon saying, "...it's impressiveness is such that to see 'Hamilton' for the first time is to know you're watching the evolution of an art form right before your eyes". They continued with "A sweeping spectacle about the founding of the United States 240 years ago but told with the sounds and skin colors of today's America. 'Hamilton' is a magnificent achievement."

The Daily Gazette mirrored the sentiment saying "It is audacious, funny, inspiring, instructive, and clever on nearly every level of the script and production". They continued with "Holding the show together is, of course, the brilliant, cocky, and shrewd Hamilton, and Alexander Ferguson (a standby...) was first-rate -- vocally flexible and completely credible in his portrayal of this Founding Father."

What is Hamilton about?

One of the Founding Fathers, Alexander Hamilton's story is an extraordinary one. Born out of wedlock in the West Indies, and orphaned by the time he was 11, he arrived in New Jersey in 1772 to begin his grammar school education. From there he played a major role in the American revolutionary war, rising through the ranks to become an aide to George Washington. But that was only the beginning of the great man's story, with the proceeding chapters in his life taking in everything from sex scandals, fatal duels and the creation of the American Constitution.

Hamilton is now playing at the Proctors Theatre Mainstage through to August 25.
