Well paced, beautifully sung--a wonderful exeprience.
I drove three hours each way to see Les Miserables at Proctors Theatre in Schenectady, and it was well worth it. I love this story--I've reread the book repeatedly and watched every film version YouTube offered, but this was the first live performance I've experienced. The pacing was quick, but they didn't cut enough to damage the story. The singing was moving and beautiful.(I've seen some complaints on this tour that lyrics were hard to understand, but I found everything quite clear.) The set design was arresting--the backgrounds based on Hugo's paintings gave a vivid sense of atmosphere. Most important, the core of the story shone clear-- the vivid awareness of injustice and man-made misery, and of the fact that sometimes people are sincerely trying to stop that misery, working at cross-purposes and making each other worse; the difficulty of breaking down economic/ social systems that crush people; the abiding possibility of love and courage in the face of all that's wrong.
Simply the best
I have seen many Broadway and touring productions of Les Miserables. I have never seen one as well done as this one. Every performer playing every role was magnificent. I have never seen any audience as involved, enthused and appreciative as this one was- going from boisterous applause, to laughter, to absolute silence. Every scene whether solo or ensemble, whether vocal or dance was beyond impressive. The staging and set design brilliantly integrated technology and tradition in a way that added much to the production but never distracted from the amazing talent of all those on the stage. Simply the best
Awesome performance
I enjoyed every second of this performance! It’s definitely a must see! Thank you for coming to South Bend!
Magnificent
Saw Les Mis in Charlotte night of 5/24/25 and was blown away; near perfection on all fronts! Leads, ensemble, orchestra, mics, lighting and stage work were all incredible, such a brilliant performance!
Les Miserables
This is the fourth time I've seen Les Mis. It is by far my most favorite musical production. The Van Wezel performance at the 2:00 matinee this Wednesday was the best of the four I've seen. Every lead voice was excellent. The sets were great. The interpretation of story was different than any other, in the best possible way. Victor Hugo was genius. This company brought the intentin of his script to life in the very best way. All our human traits, the desperation to the elation, and everything in between was masterfully given to us, your audience, by your stellar performances. Thank you.
You must see this
I was reluctant to see the show for a second time, especially after seeing Les Mis in an amazing theater in London years ago. This show in Houston was hands down the best musical I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen many. What a cast! Thank you for an evening I will never forget!
